ARTIST STATEMENT - BIO

Both my mother and grandmother painted and I am blessed to own some of their paintings. A dozen years ago I decided it was “my time” to see if I could follow in their footsteps. I believe in the importance and the necessity of art in everyday life. If I can interpret what I perceive as beautiful and interesting in my ordinary world and convey that to someone else, then as an art maker, I will feel that my effort and work is legitimate.

I guess I paint for the love of it. I paint what surrounds me, what I love, what emotionally draws me in. I learn from trying, from my failures, from my fellow artists and from my loved ones.

Watercolor has always excited me – it is not predictable, it changes, moves and surprises. I am captivated and I hope I can convey in my work this joy that I experience when I place brush to paper.
