KATHLEEN FLAHERTY
ARTIST STATEMENT
I
have had the good fortune of painting with a number of wonderful
artists. My philosophy, "school is never out", motivates
me to seek ways to continually acquire new skills, raising my art to a
higher level. The challenge of capturing a likeness on paper or
canvas has always presented a welcome challenge for me. When
choosing subjects, I am very fickle. I enjoy capturing
reflections, yet find myself fascinated by color, contrast and patterns
in nature. Architecture holds a special interest for me,
especially when painting plein air. There is an endless supply of
subjects to choose from. When commuting to and from my 3rd grade
students in Kewaskum I
often find myself screeching to a halt, reaching for my camera, and
hoping to capture a moment in time, perhaps the subject for my next
painting.
