MILWAUKEE
PLEIN AIR - THE DOWNTOWN EXPERIENCE
September 10th - Sunday, September 20th
2009
The 2009 Milwaukee Plein Air - the Downtown Experience was a great
success! Alisyn Kay, 2009 Plein Air Coordinator, gave a report on
the event at the September 12th meeting. The event was sponsored
by the League of Milwaukee Artists and Wisconsin Visual Artists.
Ten days of ideal weather encouraged artists to get
out there and create an outstanding body of work. Eighty- three
artists registered to paint in the event. Artists painted within
boundaries bordered by Juneau Avenue on the North, Erie Street on
the South, Old World 3rd Street on the West, and Lake Michigan on
the East. Entertainment was provided by alternative rock artist,
Annie B.
The exhibition and silent auction took place on Friday,
September 18. Sales for the exhibition totaled $14,425.00. 30% of
sales were donated to Artists Working in Education, a not-for- profit
organization committed to the art education of children through
involvement with active artists. Over $5,000 in awards were given
to artists due to fundraising efforts by the Milwaukee Riverwalk
District. Additional photos of the event will be available on the
WVA website.
Work on tallying expenses for the event continues
and that report will be given at the November 14th meeting. A listing
of Plein Air art purchasers will be provided by the coordinators.
Joan Schneider’s letter of thanks to the faithful volunteers
who made the Plein Air a supreme success was read at the September
LMA meeting.
Alisyn and Joan were applauded for their dedication
to LMA and hard work in putting together this event. ß |
